MODOC FIRE SAFE COUNCIL COUNTY COORDINATOR
JOB DESCRIPTION — $30-$60+/hour DOE
The Modoc Fire Safe Council (MFSC) County Coordinator will conduct public educational outreach and partner with representatives from Modoc County, local wildfire mitigation groups, and staff from the California Fire Safe Council (CFSC) to build and implement a coordinated county-wide wildfire mitigation strategy. The selected candidate will report directly to the Modoc County Fire Safe Council Executive Board.
The primary goals of the grant used to fund this position are to educate, encourage, and develop county-wide collaboration and coordination among the public and wildfire mitigation groups helping to improve overall wildfire resiliency strategies and community preparedness. These goals will be accomplished by building relationships among representatives in the local wildfire mitigation groups and connecting these groups with county-level emergency management officials, collaborating on fire mitigation projects, sourcing and assisting with county-wide wildfire grant applications, and performing educational outreach across the county. The chosen candidate will act as a lead in community wildfire preparedness mapping efforts. GIS skills are a plus, but not required.
Duties (in order of MFSC Executive Board priorities):
- Communication and coordination with MFSC Executive Board, Modoc County representatives, wildfire mitigation group representatives, and staff from the CFSC
- Search for funding to continue the County Coordinator position and core programs of the MFSC (Defensible Space and Residential Chipping programs)
- Complete administrative duties as assigned by MFSC Executive Board
- Oversee GIS mapping efforts
- Lead Community Wildfire Protection Plan update within a catastrophic wildfire context
- Grant writing and budget management
- Project development through group collaboration
- Project management from funding award through implementation to final reports
The ideal candidate for the MFSC County Coordinator is someone with a background in community-level advocacy and demonstrated leadership skills working with a broad range of individuals and organizations. The candidate should have an ability to think strategically and creatively about the state of wildfire in California. Three or more years actively working in wildfire resiliency and/or emergency preparedness—whether through local or county-wide Fire Safe Councils, Resource Conservation Districts, or with emergency management departments or agencies—is preferred.
