Do You Need a Burn Permit? Know the Rules
Burn piles provide an effective method for managing excess vegetation, helping reduce wildfire risks by eliminating dry, flammable debris. By burning natural materials like branches and leaves in controlled conditions, landowners can clear their properties without the need for transportation to disposal sites. The ash produced from burn piles can enrich the soil by adding essential nutrients, improving conditions for future plant growth.

- Remove all flammable material within 10 feet of the pile, clearing down to bare earth
- Keep a water supply readily available at the burn site
- An adult must be present with a shovel until the fire is fully extinguished
- Burning is prohibited unless weather conditions (especially wind) allow for safe burning
- Household trash and garbage cannot be burned outdoors at residences
