October 6-12, 2024, National Fire Protection Association announced, “Smoke alarms: make them work for you!” as the official theme for Fire Prevention Week. This year’s focus on working smoke alarms comes in response to NFPA data, which shows that majority of U.S. home fire deaths continue to occur in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. During this year’s Fire Prevention Week, the Modoc Fire Prevention & Education Committee traveled to schools in Modoc County to teach children how to stay safe in case of a fire and open the annual fire prevention poster contest.
